Sixteen years old Mines of Moria! (+Saruman)

Games workshop released in year 2001 Lord of the Rings miniature game. (I had some wrong facts. corrected now) 2005 they released started box called Mines of Moria. It included rules, some scenery, the fellowship, goblins and a cave troll.

This is what you get from Mines of Moria starter set.

So now is year 2017 and I'm only 16 years late... wait what sixteen. Oh man. Well I did not even played miniatures games by that time.

I managed to get hold of this starter box couple of years ago and now it is fully painted set. Phiu... One project done. I will play this game and I will play it with my good friend and enjoy it like someone did sixteen years ago. I'm very happy about this set.

Game takes place in the Mines of Moria and specially in the Balin's tomb.

Balin's tomb from the movie

Models was very fun to paint. I hope I enjoy the game same amount. I'm not army painter but I managed to paint 24 goblins in decent time and managed too keep good quality as well. Of course I painted eyes to every one. But these models are in normal scale and not in heroic scale as other GW miniatures. So these more smaller miniatures to paint.

Terrain from the box. Some pillars, trap doors, door, well, Balin's crave and some dead markers. I have another sets pillars and door to paint.

Terrain pieces from the box.

The Fellowship. I have painted this some time ago but here is the new picture.

The Fellowship from the box.

24 goblins armed with spears, bows or shield and swords. 12 different sculpts of goblins.

Mines of Moria goblins

The cave troll. I really like how this model finished. Cave troll was most fun to paint.

The cave troll.

My big plan is to make some more rocky terrain to do big Moria setting with ladders, stairs, walkways etc. I have more Moria models also to paint.

But here is some action pictures.

Fellowship is defending the tomb against goblins and a cave troll.

Battle of Balin's tomb.

One dwarf is still alive in Moria.

Aragorn and Boromir defending Frodo.
Here is some bonus model from Lord of the Rings. Saruman the white wizard.

Saruman the White wizard walking in the forest near the Isengard.

Saruman. I used two different wash tones to paint the robe. Black and brown.

Wasteland Project

Hello. I have been very lazy about painting in this year. But I have lot's of goodies to paint and make.

I have started new project again. This project is called Wasteland and its goal is to paint and make wasteland miniatures and terrain. This project will give terrain and miniatures for Fallout, Wasteland, Mad Max and other things. Also this terrain is good for Necromunda Ash wastes supplement. Also there is new version of Necromunda coming up.

So here is my wasteland project in a picture so far. Some survivors and terrain. Ruins, small junk piles and a two story building. And of course a monster which can mix match with fantasy. Can you find the monster? Survivors be aware.

The wasteland project is not using any particular line miniatures or terrain. I'm using all what will fit.

Wasteland...
PS. What would you like me to see paint next? Star wars, Mordheim, Necromunda, Fantasy, "wasteland" or Lord of the Rings miniatures. Please leave  a comment and I might paint next your suggestion.

Tales from the Sump!

The Sump

What is the Sump? It is the lowest parts of Necromunda hive city. Nobody lives in these parts because it is toxic or poisonous area. Only mutated creatures live there... And because of that I can paint monsters from there.

One common monster what lives in sump is plague zombie. Poor gangers, enforces or hivers have been bitten by these walkers making them to join their ranks. Only the strongest or luckiest have survived from these bites.

There is rules for playing with zombies in necromunda. But be warned. Your gang might meet their doom against these rotten walkers.

There is six original sculpts of Plague zombies. I have four of them and I have just finished painting the third. This zombie represent a poor ganger. Maybe a juve who have been a careless.

The Haunt of Horror!

PS. I have lately had very slow update rate about my posts. Don't worry. I'm up to something big. I will  update more pics to my FB because it's more easier and I'm not tied to my desktop computer.

You can see glint of my newest terrain project behind the zombie.

Mordheim: Bridge House part 4 (Final part. Finished bridge house)

Hello. This is 2016 years last project. I really don't have time to build or paint nothing anymore in this year. But the next year is coming and I have lot's of plans to paint miniatures.

Back to Mordheim. This is the last part of building Mordheim bridge house. Actually this part is more like painting than building.

Step 1: Prime the building
I have painted the building with black spray primer. I had to do some minor building in this part. I added a window board. This step is really fast and easy.

House is primed with black spray

Wooden window board. Clued after the priming.

Step 2: Base color and wash
In this phase I have painted the house inside out with the base color. I have used tan, red and blue inside the house. Dark grey and lighter grey outside. Wooden planks are painted with brown. And of course the downstairs with grey color.

Base color in place. I have used 8 different base color.

After I had done the base color I just washed the whole building with black wash. It prings some of the detail up. And because it is a ruined house it doesn't matter if it look some grimy and dirty.

After the black wash.
Step 3: The dry brushing
This is the longest part to do. I have dry brushed all walls, floors, dirt and details. Mainly I have used same base color before the wash. Then I have lightened it up with white or similar lighter tone.
Well in this part I was very interested to paint the building and I did not take pictures of every layer.

I have painted about 3-5 layers to each sealing or floor sections.

After the dry brush
I had to do some minor fixing in this phase. I added some more "dirt" on the ground floor. You can see the new dirt in color of grey.

Some fixing details. Grey dirt. Painted brown after drying.

Step 4: The finishing touches and details
Last part is the funnest part to do. I can ad some details to bring the ruins more alive. I have added all kind of details what is shown in original card board ruins. Some details I have just done as I see it fit.

Posters, writings, rust, water leaks, blood, Town Cryer magazines and fire place.

Red arrows point some the details what I have done to the ruins.

Step 5: See the result
After I have done it all. I have taken some pictures and posted it up in my blog. I'm happy to hear some feedback. There is some thinks what I have done better like edges of the ruins. But I'm happy with the result.

I hope you enjoy the finished Mordheim Bridge house. I have now done all the buildings what come with original game.

Finished Mordheim Bridge house.

The bridge is removable for better storage and it will wont take so much damage
when I move it around the gaming table.

Next I have to build the Blood on the street expansion. Only problem is that I don't own the expansion yet. If you have the expansion houses and the plastic parts. I might just buy them for the right price. And I need the schematics also!

Elf Ranger & Woods and Halloween! (Lot's of Pictures)

Hello! Small update about my lately miniature building. I have re-based lot's of these trees what you can see from the pictures. I have about 50 trees and 20-30 bases to make. First the trees was only in green painted cardboard. They didn't look very nice on the table.

You can see also a Elf Ranger in the picture. It is a Games Workshop model and it's a perfect for Mordheim range.

Also I'm building the Mordheim house and it should be ready to be painted before the Christmas.

Here is my competition work for local gaming club. Subject was "Halloween" My work is called "knock, KNOCK! Trick or Treat!"

Who let the Dogs out!

WOUH! wouh! wouh! Wouh! Echoed from the street of Mordheim. Witch hunter captain pointed his finger into the dark street and yelled "PURE THE UNCLEAN!" Poor warlock last reflection in his eyes where vicious dogs was running towards him. WOUH! wouh! wouh! Wouh! Echoed from the street of Mordheim.

Hunters prey.

I promised to paint five original Mordheim miniatures this year. Actually I have painted six. One Warlock, Captain, two flagellants and two hounds. I have taken a small picture of the last dogs. Also here is the picture of my witch hunters and all this year painted Mordheim miniatures.

I still have lot of broken and missing parts witch hunter miniatures which I'm maybe going to mod some new and different weapons variations for Mordheim.

Here is the new Mordheim hounds!
I'm very happy about the result about these hounds. Two of them are painted about couple years ago when I wasn't as good painter as I'm now. Small amount about wash or ink I might do more visible details to these two older hounds.

Here is the all four Mordheim Hounds!

Here is my all original Witch hunter warband. I'm still missing one model. The one witch hunter with the great sword.

Timed Witch Hunter!

I did get questions how long I paint for one miniature and I decided to take time. I started to take time after the mini was primed.

+Basecoat and some washing. Timer 56 min and 11 seconds.
+Layers after that. Timer 3 hours 22 min and 58 seconds
+Basing and finishing model. Timer 3 hours 52 min 34 second.

So it will take 4 hours painting time to finish the miniature. You can find some WIP pics from my Facebook page.

I have used some premade and painted tree leafs from Pienoismallimarketti. You can see the brown leafs in base.
Do you feel lucky. The Mordheim Witch Hunter Captain!

One more to the damned city!

Hello! Here is again my new painted model. Today I have painted... well not entirely painted it today. It took about three days and about 1-3 three hours per day to paint this model.

I have painted one more original model for Mordheim! This time it is from Witch hunter warband. The model is Falgellant fearless and crazy warrior who is ready to sacrifice his life to purify the abominations and other unpure wizards.

I have painted three Mordheim models this year. My promise was to paint five of them so I need to paint two more. But here is the pics of the flagellant!

Well Hi there! I have been on vacation. So my painting has been on hold for a few weeks. But something is lurking and it is coming from the Sump!

So expect some few days to see my new painted miniature... or not because I'm still on vacation and I might not be near my painting station. So literally I'm taking some holiday from painting as well.

But I have new paint theme for my Necromunda Van Saar gang and I hope I got some time to paint one test model for that.

Painting Necromunda Juve Part 5

The part 5 is here. This part I usually do the base.

It depends about the model what kind of base I do. For the Necromunda because it nature of Hive city. Junk, dirty and urban environment. Yeah there is some cleaner and nicer places in Hive but the gangers mostly life in factory or some kind of lawless area.

Here is m base for Necromunda:

1. I clue some beams, junk, net or platforms to the base. And some texture paint.
2. Then I use black paint to do priming
3. Do the base colors and shading
4. Highlight the base colors and do some dry brushing
5. details.. like painting rust or warning lines.

Here is the almost finished base.  I will paint the edge with grey.

Cluing some items to the base
Cut it nice when dried. I used super clue
Put some primer before painting

Painting Necromunda Juve Part 4

Layers, layers layers... this is the hardest and the most fun part to see the miniature come to life.

After the basic paint it is time to give some highlights. First I start applying  same base colors before shading. Then I star mixing some more lighter tone paints and star filling up very thin layers. I use only water based colors because it is easy to thin them to ad these thin layers.

when I am happy with the layers I add some details and fix some errors with darker tone or with wash. I do not use much of a dry brushing for details.

Make sure you have some very small brush for the details. I have noticed that it is very much easier to paint details like eyes with small brushes.

Here is the example. Escher juve got about 3-5 layers of skin tone. And then I added details like eyes and make up.

I had to do some fixing because I was very tired because lack of sleep.  Painting  as tired I made too much errors and my hand and eye coordination was not very good. Also I could not focus very well. So I decided to keep painting some other day. Remember to keep breaks and paint when you are happy and in the right mood to do some nice paint ups.

But here is the picture!

Some layering and details!

Here is some small fixes on skin and also shirt is layered with same way.
